A first look of Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups has been released after the news that it will receive its world premiere at Berlin Film Festival in February.
Starring Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett, the trailer shows Bale as the wayward Rick, struggling to find meaning in his Hollywood surroundings. As can be expected from Malick, few plot details have been revealed aside from questions of celebrity and identity, with Blanchett, Portman and British actress Imogen Poots playing Rick’s various love interests.
This will be the second Malick film in 2015 to star Bale, Portman, and Blanchett, who will appear alongside Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling in an untitled project set for release later next year.
Knight of Cups joins Kenneth Brannagh’s Cinderella and 45 Years, from Weekend director Andrew Haigh, for the 65th year of the film festival, which announces its full programme on January 27.
The Berlin Film Festival begins on February 5 2015.
