Spectatorship - Experimental and Expanded Film/Video

The films of many Experimental and Expanded Film Directors has had a huge impact upon the work of contemporary Music Video Filmmakers and provided them with a great source of inspiration. It could be considered that 'experimental techniques' are far more accessible for mainstream audiences in this medium as the music is the dominating factor and the images serve as an interesting visual backdrop, where narrative logic is far less important.

Here are a few examples that make reference to some Experimental Films previously posted in this blog. Watch the videos and consider the images from the original sources.

'Un Chien Andalou' (1929) Luis Bunuel

'Koyaanisqatsi' (1982) Godfrey Reggio

'Meshes Of The Afternoon' (1943) Maya Deren
